On your 2005 you have the Gowanda Cemetery, I thought you would like to know people are working on the Wheater Rd. Site. The local historian knows a ton of information about each of the people who were buried there. We will be there on April 21 @2:00 p.m. with a documentary crew. If you check out our agency web site you will see some pictures and articles about the site. www.mhacatt.org

Hello. Very interesting site and you lead a very interesting discussion. There is a nice atmosphere here and I'm sure I will often read your posts.
From time to time I will also try to write something interesting.

I lived at Helmuth (my father was the Asst Director, my grandfather was Earle V. Gray, Supervisor), and I never came across these markers in all they years I lived there. Can you tell me where on the grounds these are? Perhaps in relation to Taylor Hollow Road or the graves' proximity to the Power House or some other landmark? Very sad that we have no record of these people. Much of the records and other properties of the Gowanda Psychiatric Center (as it later came to be known) were lost and forsaken -- like the people who lived there. Thanks for posting these pictures. It says a lot about the value we (don't) place on people.

I am a psychiatric nursing supervisor/manager. I have worked in the field for 32 years. I have been in many of the facilities you photographed. If you want stories I have many. Loved the pics! I Worked in several buildings and visited others when they were still active.
Thanks for the memories,
PS, while they looked terrible, it was to keep the people safe, not just keep them in.
